Bolivian artist, performer and DJ Maque together with Brazilian producer and DJ auto_timer founded Choka, a platform inspired by the Spanish word "chocar," meaning to collide.
Our mission is to bring together performers and DJs from various migrant communities for one-of-a-kind events that celebrate the convergence of different party cultures and musical practices. Choka features collaborative performances, an inclusive platform prioritising queer artists with migration backgrounds, professional exchange opportunities, and a focus on community building.
Suena BERLIN is a festival dedicated to amplifying the voices, sounds, and practices of diasporic and underground communities from the Global South in Berlin. Born in Berlin in 2024 under the name Suena LATAM, the festival returns in 2026 with an expanded vision focusing on centuries old diasporic movements between Africa, Latin America and Europe and the aim to connect diverse artistic and musical communities that emerge from migration, decolonial thinking, and resistance, and to position them within the international creative landscape of Berlin. From the ancient tectonic drift that once split Africa and Latin America to today’s diasporic routes converging in Berlin, Suena BERLIN echoes the movement of continents — a living reminder of our interconnectedness.
The Expo Festival: A Showcase of Wahlberliner*innen is an annual festival that debuted in 2013. Over the last nine years, the Expo has been able to present more than one hundred performances of new work by international artists who have made Berlin their adopted home. In doing so, it holds a unique position in Berlin’s vast cultural landscape as both a local and international festival.
Together with Daniel Brunet and Christin Eckart, Maque Pereyra has been a co-curator of the Expo Festival for the 2022 and 2024 editions.
